Shades Of Sensitivity

The truly creative mind in any field is no more than this: A human creature born abnormally, inhumanly sensitive. To him… a touch is a blow, a sound is a noise, a misfortune is a tragedy, a joy is an ecstasy, a friend is a lover, a lover is a god, and failure is death. Add to this cruelly delicate organism the overpowering necessity to create, create, and create– so that without the creating of music or poetry or books or buildings or something of meaning, his very breath is cut off from him. He must create, must pour out creation. By some strange, unknown, inward urgency he is not really alive unless he is creating.

That sip of coffee, or that bowl of ice cream you’ve been craving all day can be bothersome to many patients who experience tooth sensitivity. Here are a few helpful tips to minimize tooth sensitivity.

What is Tooth Sensitivity?

People who suffer from tooth sensitivity avoid daily activities such as consuming hot or cold foods and beverages as well as brushing their teeth. These simple activities cause tooth sensitivity sufferers to live in constant fear of severe pain. Sensitivity occurs when the dentin, a porous tissue in your teeth, becomes exposed. The dentin has microscopic channels, called tubules, which are pathways to the nerve. When dentinal tubules are exposed, due to receding gum tissue or enamel loss, nerves are more easily triggered by certain stimuli causing tooth sensitivity.
Tooth sensitivity inflicts significant pain and discomfort. Many people who suffer from sensitivity avoid basic behaviors due to intense pain.

What are the Causes of Tooth Sensitivity?

Some factors which can contribute to tooth sensitivity include:
- Brushing too hard or using a toothbrush with hard bristles.
- Teeth grinding.
- Dental cleanings or treatments.
- Temporary tooth sensitivity, which can occur after a professional teeth-whitening treatment but usually goes away shortly after the procedure ends.

How to Treat and Prevent Sensitive Teeth

Tooth sensitivity could have a number of different reasons to why you’re experiencing some pain. Gum recession could be a sign of gum disease. Sensitivity could also be a sign of tooth decay or be a warning sign that you are clenching or grinding your teeth.See your dental professional for proper assessment and to find out the best steps to take for treatment.
Here are some steps you can take to treat and prevent tooth sensitivity:

1.Pay attention to your brushing technique

It could be that you are too enthusiastic about brushing and could be brushing too aggressively. Although it may seem that brushing harder would help your overall oral hygiene when in fact it leads to gum recession. When your gums recede it exposes the sensitive areas of the teeth.Use a soft-bristled toothbrush & brush and floss your teeth twice a day to prevent gum loss.

2. Stay away from acidic foods and beverages

A major culprit could be from a high acidic diet. Drinks like soda, energy drinks, sports drinks, juice and candy carry a lot of acid in them causes them to erode the tooth enamel.

3. Make a change in your toothpaste choice

Brush with a sensitivity toothpaste, which will continue removing plaque to clean teeth while providing relief from sensitivity
4. Come visit your dentist
When it comes to teeth sensitivity, a healthier mouth starts with good brushing habits
